Action Replay : Top football moments of 2011

1. The ever-triumphing Barcelona
Considered to be the best team in the world, Barcelona further enhanced their reputation by winning the 8th edition of the Club World Cup held in Japan. When they played, the world forgot to sleep & opponents were never so stressed as they were while facing the Catalan giants. Along with the diminutive Messi, who led a bunch of gifted men, Barcelona consistently keep dismantling their opponents with solace.
Skill is the benchmark for their success and talents like Xavi Hernandez , Andres Iniesta, Thiago, Puyol are God gifted players, making them a class apart from the rest . Thus in 2011, they carried on with their legacy of winning almost every possible trophy.
2. Sir Alex Ferguson’s 25th anniversary
Sir Alex
Sir Alex Ferguson celebrated 25 years at helm for Manchester United in 2011. It’s a remarkable achievement to stay on-course for so long & consistently produce results. His tenure has seen United topple opponents & achieve the pinnacles of success, thus making him the most respected managers in the history of football.
Manchester United have dominated those years – and the towering presence throughout has been Sir Alex Ferguson. Under his management , United have won 37 trophies in all, making Red Devils an indomitable force.
3. Manchester : A city of two tales

So far in the Barclays Premier League , it has been a tale of one city giving the blues to their opponents. And although Manchester City have hogged the headlines with their deep , talented squad ; only 2012 will determine which side- Red Devils or Manchester Blues can maintain that required consistency in the long run to win the coveted English Premier League.
Though Manchester City has also been in the news for wrong reasons ( Tevez saga , Balotelli blunders ) , but also did garner respect accolades after their 6-1 thumping of the Red Devils at OT.
Still long way to go in the season , consistency & the ability to handle pressure situations will determine the EPL champions for this season.
4. Relentless Robin Van Persie

Who needs Batman when you have Robin ? With an average of 0.97 goals per game , he has scored 35 goals in 36 appearances in 2011 & has been gunning down the defenses with ease & class.
An injury free RVP has conquered unparalleled heights with his consistent performances in the Gunners shirt. Robin Van Persie has played an instrumental role in mending Arsenal’s disastrous start to the season. His vital goals have boosted Wenger’s side & while he has been unlucky to be part of a team that has won nothing since 2005, the trophy cabinet at the Emirates would have seen more silverware had RVP been fit & injury free in these years.
5. Racism rises once again

Albeit nasty & highly unpleasant ; but sadly racism reared its head once again in footballing world in 2011. Despite England being fairly successful in kicking it off the field, the matter again rose up due to uncanny actions & verbal altercations.
Up till now, Luis Suarez has been banned for eight matches & asked to pay a hefty sum for racially abusing Man United’s Patrice Evra. Chelsea’s John Terry faces a criminal investigation for a similar offence on QPR’s Anton Ferdinand in the Loftus Road game.
Meanwhile, FIFA president Sepp Blater produced a howler by suggesting footballers should resolve such altercations with a handshake.
6. Ascension of young talents
Obviously while we enjoy & love to see the game wreckers & maestros make music, excitement levels reach high levels when new talents come into the reckoning. Brazilian Neymar, German Mario Gotze , Belgian Eden Hazard, Danish Christian Eriksen have caught the Scout’s eyes in 2011 with their mesmerizing skills & sweet footwork, and are sooner than later expected to move from their respective sides to establish themselves as top European players.
Noting down each possible event is impossible as the football world is constantly active throughout the year. Each event is interesting for a sports lover , but these were a few which created storms on & off the field.
Co-meth New Year, the footballing world garners more interest with the January transfer window capable of throwing up surprises.
Hoping 2012 is a cracker of a year for football & the fans who support their favorite clubs with enthusiasm & passion.
